The fourth lambing...
This morning I was woken around 1am by bleating...
This white 3yr old ewe had these two lambs pretty well licked clean! A black ram lamb and a white ewe lamb. both about 8lb.
She later delivered a 6lb lamb that was already dead and obviously had been for a little while. It was mostly brown! So she actually had one of each of the main colours possible!!!
The third lambing...
My 4yr old pet ewe had twins late in the day on the 18th of August... Both black... A ewe lamb and then a ram lamb...
The second lambing...
This set of twins was born on the 18th of August to a 3yr old ewe!
A light brown ram lamb, followed by a dark brown ewe lamb.
The ewe lamb almost didn't survive, but she made it, and is a real little fighter...
But sadly the ram lamb died at approximately 24hrs old.

2020 Lambing - Post #6 Last lamb for the season...?
This ram lamb arrived on Saturday afternoon (5th Sept) weighing about 5.5kg.
Mum was a well-grown, August-born single, born last year to my then-6yr-old ewe... I've never had a hogget lamb this early in spring, but she is probably a similar age to what some other hoggets have been when they have lambed!
I think this is my last lamb for this season, as (as I expected) I don't think the other ewe hogget is in lamb. She was Oct-born & out of a hogget mum, shows no signs of being in lamb, and I can't feel a lamb - which I should by now if she was in-lamb, as the latest possible "due" date (based on when my last ram left me) is only 3 1/2wks away.

2020 Lambing - Post #5 Another set of twins!!
This black 2yr old ewe had twin ram lambs late last night (about 11:33pm & 11:48pm)...
#1 is black with a white patchy face and white on the tip of his tail, and weighed 5kg!
#2 is moorit (brown) with some white on his head, and weighed 6kg!
2020 Lambing - Post #4 Another single!
So I woke a little after 1:00 a.m. on the 20th of August hearing bleating... this BIG fellow had already arrived - he was 16 lbs / a bit over 7kg.
Mum is a 2yr old hand-raised pet, had a single lamb as a hogget last year, and was doing very well without me there to supervise!
I don't know which ram was the sire of this lamb (that's a first for my flock!)... The day this lamb was born was 149 days since I sold the ram lamb that I wanted this ewe bred to, at which point she went in with the 1 1/2yr old ram that I kept a bit longer...
He is moorit (brown), as expected, given that his mum is moorit, and
both the rams I used this year were moorit... but he also shows some
signs of spotting ("S-locus") genetics, with some white on his head and
on the tip of his tail.
He's a lively lamb - I was watching him jumping and skipping this afternoon!
2020 Lambing - Post #3
This
single white ewe lamb arrived just a bit before 10:45pm on the 11th of August!
Mum
is a 2yr old, and had a single white ewe lamb last year too!
Meantime, the three older lambs and their mums moved out to the big paddock...
The darker lamb belongs to the black (grey) ewe. The lighter twins belong to the light brown ewe.

2020 lambing - Post #2 Twins!
My 7yr old ewe finally lambed on Saturday morning - at 152 days gestation! This is only the third time that I have recorded a sheep gestation over 150 days (out of 95 gestation records).
She had twins - a ram lamb and a ewe lamb. They are both moorit (brown) as expected, as their dam is moorit, and their sire was also. They both have some white on their foreheads.
Lambing 2020 - Post #1 First lamb of the season!
My first lamb arrived around 9:30am on Thursday morning (30 July).
Mum is a black (grey!) 3yr old ewe, and this was her second lambing.
She had a moorit (brown) ewe lamb, that weighed about 4.5kg.

The last lambs of the season (2019 lambing - post #8)
This pet ewe hogget had a ewe lamb that weighed 5kg earlier in October (2 1/2 weeks ago!). I wasn't well at the time, and am only now getting around to adding her photo to this blog!
Lambing in my flock is officially over for this year, with the birth of this 4kg black ram lamb at about 4:30am on Thursday morning!

More lambs! (2019 lambing - post #7)
This ewe hogget really surprised me with twins on Saturday evening!!
Both are ram lambs, and weighed 3kg.
Both moorit, though pretty dark moorit.
Not sure which Agouti locus allele(s) they show, but I think it will be one of the "blue" ones!
This is only the second time (in two decades) that I've had a hogget have twins. The first time was four years ago when the great-grand-dam of this hogget had twins (the female twin from that set of twins is the paternal grand-dam of this hogget)! This hogget was also from a set of triplets (the second set of triplets that her dam had).

Another lamb! (2019 lambing - post #6)
This will be my only white lamb this lambing!
Another girl, about 3.5kg or so.
Mum is a hogget, and did very well. I wasn't even aware she was in labour until only a few minutes before the lamb was born - so a very low-stress lambing!
